A government ordinance proposal under discussion at the Ministry of Health intends to amend the legislation on sick leave so that the medical certificate to be submitted by the employee for the issuance of the sick leave certificate will be issued no later than the date of the sick leave. Currently, in the absence of an explicit time limit, the medical certificate is often presented on the date the patient is seen by the doctor, even if the sick leave certificate is issued at a later date (e.g. in the case of hospitalization). It also aims to clarify that the minimum public health insurance contribution period must be met when sick leave is granted.
