Employers who organise work in shifts must grant daily rest combined with a weekly rest period of 48 consecutive hours in order to interrupt continuous work, as defined in Article 137(4) of the Labour Code. Furthermore, it is noted that “(…) the weekly rest period is granted every week, without the possibility of carrying it over from one week to the next. The only exception is Article 137, which applies if the employee works more than five consecutive days. In other words, for the sixth consecutive day of work, the approval of the labour inspectorate and the consent of the union are required.”
