The first provisions of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (no. 1689/2024) have already entered into force. The adoption of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation entails the implementation of a number of rules with an impact also on employment relations, including: (i) bans on the introduction and use of AI systems that can infer a person’s emotions, in the context of the workplace; and (ii) obligations to ensure sufficient AI literacy of personnel.
The penalties provided for involve substantial fines of up to 7% of the total annual worldwide turnover for the previous financial year (will apply from August 2, 2025).
