On February 25, 2025 the Government Decision no. 64/2025 entered into force, which regulates the procedure for the settlement of the purchase of special corrective devices in the budgetary sector.
Although the rules apply to staff in the budgetary sector, the provisions are also relevant to the private sector, at least from the point of view of establishing a “benchmark” to which employers can refer when it comes to interpreting the provisions of GD no. 1028/2006 (which we have discussed in detail here).
According to these rules, among other things, the right to reimbursement
- is applicable up to a limit of RON 500, which is intended to cover the initial purchase of the devices, the change of dioptres or the replacement of the entire device, if necessary.
- covers only special corrective devices, i.e. those aimed at optical correction for intermediate distance or prevention of visual difficulties in relation to an activity at a workstation involving display screen equipment.
- it is intended for those who routinely use visual display screen equipment for a significant part of their normal working time, in order to ensure health and safety at work.
- is based on the occupational physician’s recommendation, issued on the basis of the results of an ophthalmological examination, which certifies that special corrective devices are necessary for the work.
