Cătălin co-heads the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice. A pleading lawyer with 22 years of experience, he specialises in arbitration and has an outstanding track record in niche litigation areas — energy, construction, telecom, insurance and capital markets — as well as in tax procedure, on which he co-authored a book, and in antitrust disputes.
Highlights of his activity include assisting:
- A European sovereign state in a USD 850 million ICSID arbitration in the petrochemical industry, involving allegations of breach of the Energy Charter Treaty;
- A major oil & gas producer in recognising and enforcing a USD 5 billion PCA award against a sovereign state;
- A national financial regulator in proceedings against one of the country’s largest motor third-party liability insurers;
- The creditors of a major insurance company in four arbitrations and one litigation worth more than EUR 300 million in aggregate;
- An international engineering and construction company in a commercial dispute against a major oil & gas service provider;
- A leading global technology company in a GDPR case concerning third-party access to mobile data;
- A leading global insurer in an insurance claim initiated by international hotel operators for Covid-19-related business disruption;
- A leading online payments provider in a dispute concerning its role in the insolvency of a major online retail platform.
