Cătălin co-heads the Dispute Resolution department of Filip & Company. He specializes in international arbitration and has built a distinguished track record across complex, high-value matters in sectors such as energy, construction, telecommunications, insurance, and capital markets.
Highlights of his activity include assisting:
- Representing Romania in an ICSID arbitration concerning the expropriation of an oil refinery;
- Advising Naftogaz in the recognition and enforcement of a USD 5 billion PCA award against the Russian Federation;
- Acting for City Insurance (in liquidation) in a series of ad hoc reinsurance arbitrations with a combined value exceeding EUR 400 million;
- Representing the Romanian Financial Supervisory Authority in regulatory proceedings against insurers Euroins and Astra, concerning the withdrawal of each insurer’s operating licence;
- Advising an international contractor in an ICC arbitration arising from the construction of a railway infrastructure project;
- Representing an Italian EPC contractor in an international commercial dispute against a major oil and gas service provider;
- Acting for a leading global insurer in defending an insurance claim brought by the Radisson hotel operator for Covid-19-related business disruption;
- Advising a bank in connection with antitrust proceedings.
